Moe Kusaba 草場 萌
Founder of Decorative Calligraphy and Gemgraphy
“To face a character is to face one's inner self.”
Moe Kusaba is the founder of Decorative Calligraphy, an art form that brings the meaning and emotion within written characters and words into visible form through materials, light, and dimensional expression.
The idea began with a quiet question.
How can the breath of calligraphy be expressed not only through ink and paper, but also through texture, depth, and light?
In Decorative Calligraphy, adornment is not simply decoration. It is a way to reveal what is held within the writing: intention, memory, feeling, and story.
Gemgraphy is a deeper expression of this pursuit. By combining natural stones, gold and silver leaf, transparent materials, and light, it gives calligraphy a sculptural presence and a quiet radiance.
Her works are not limited to a single character. They may begin with a character, a word, a name, or a personal story. Through each piece, Moe reinterprets the culture of Japanese calligraphy with a contemporary sensibility, creating works that can live within spaces, architecture, ceremonies, and live performances.
Gemgraphy is created only by the founder and certified artists who have learned its technique and philosophy.
As an accessible entry point to this world, Beadsgraphy® allows participants to experience the spirit of Decorative Calligraphy using calligraphy paper, beads, and other materials.
